How a Vision Board Helped Me Reclaim My Dreams as a Mom

Motherhood is beautifulโ€”but letโ€™s be real, it can also feel like youโ€™re buried under diapers, dishes, and demands. As a mom of four (yes, four!), I know what itโ€™s like to feel completely consumed by the needs of everyone else. Over time, I lost sight of my dreams and goalsโ€”until one powerful tool helped me find my way back: a vision board.

Not a perfect, Pinterest-worthy masterpieceโ€”just a simple, scribbled vision board that I almost didnโ€™t take seriously. But that one piece of paper changed everything.

And if it can help me reach 81% of my goals in a year, I believe a vision board can help you transform your life too.

Losing Yourself in Motherhood Is Normal (But You Donโ€™t Have to Stay There)

When you bring a baby home, your whole world shifts. Youโ€™d do anything for that tiny humanโ€”but somewhere between sleepless nights and endless snack requests, you start losing touch with yourself.

It happened to me four times.

Every new baby meant another season where I put my identity on pause. I called it the โ€œmessy middleโ€โ€”those months (or even years) where your needs get buried under everyone elseโ€™s. And while itโ€™s totally normal, you donโ€™t have to stay stuck there.

One vision board helped me find my way out.

The Vision Board Assignment That Accidentally Changed Everything

When I signed up for life coach certification, one of our assignments was to create a vision board. Sounds fun, right? Except I was in full-on mom mode and had zero time for magazine clippings or fancy calligraphy.

So I grabbed a blank sheet of printer paper, some colored pens, and sketched a few stick figures and goals. It wasnโ€™t prettyโ€”but I taped it to my bathroom wall anyway.

Then I forgot about it.

What happened next shocked me.

Over the next several months, my life began shifting in small but powerful ways. Without obsessing over the vision board, I started checking off the things I had drawn on it:

  • โœ”๏ธ I completed my life coach certification.
  • โœ”๏ธ I met and connected with four women I admired deeply.
  • โœ”๏ธ I upgraded my photography business and started drinking more water (thanks, TikTok).
  • โœ”๏ธ I began going to yoga twice a weekโ€”effortlessly.

By the end of the year, I had achieved 13 out of the 16 goals on that vision board. Thatโ€™s 81%. From a messy piece of paper and a few stick figures.

Thatโ€™s when I knew: vision boards work.

Creating a Digital Vision Board That Supercharged My Goals

The next year, I ditched the paper and got creative with a digital vision board. I used the same design tools I already had from my photography business, picked images and fonts that inspired me, and created a personalized board that reflected the life I wanted to build.

I printed it in multiple sizes and placed copies all over the houseโ€”on the fridge, by my bed, even in my planner.

That digital vision board sparked real, tangible results:

  • โœˆ๏ธ I traveled first class with my family to Europe.
  • ๐Ÿ’ƒ I performed a ballroom dance routine.
  • ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ’ป I cut my photography work hours and focused only on aligned clients.
  • ๐ŸŽถ I made a car playlist that turned drivetime into me time.
  • ๐Ÿ—‚๏ธ I finally tackled organizing projects Iโ€™d been putting off for years.

Some goals are still in progress, and a few didnโ€™t happenโ€”but the momentum I created from that vision board was life-changing.

Why I Started the Dream to Done Podcast

After seeing how a simple vision board helped me reclaim my dreams, I felt called to help other moms do the same. Thatโ€™s why I created the Dream to Done podcastโ€”a weekly show for moms who are tired of living on the back burner and ready to start dreaming and doing again.

Whether you want to start a business, plan a dream vacation, or just drink more water and feel human againโ€”this podcast is for you. My goal is to give you the encouragement and practical tools to move from stuck to inspired.

Each episode is short (hello, carpool line listening!) and packed with heart, hope, and doable steps forward.

You Donโ€™t Need a Perfect Planโ€”Just a Vision Board and a First Step

Hereโ€™s what Iโ€™ve learned: you donโ€™t need perfect circumstances, flawless design skills, or hours of free time to change your life.

All you need is a vision board and the courage to start small.

Even if itโ€™s just a piece of printer paper and a couple of stick figuresโ€”write it down. Put it where youโ€™ll see it. And let it remind you: you matter too.

So mama, whatโ€™s one dream youโ€™ve been putting off?

โœ๏ธ Write it down.
๐Ÿ“ข Say it out loud.
๐Ÿšถโ€โ™€๏ธ Take one small step toward it today.

You donโ€™t have to wait for the perfect time. Because your life deserves to feel good nowโ€”not someday.
